CANNIBAL FLOWER
Group Art Exhibit at Hangar 1018
words/flicks: K. Osborne
The Hangar 1018 Gallery, just east of Downtown, is an urban warehouse space with vaulted beam ceilings, that features music with its receptions, giving it a very clubby feel, and on Saturday night, 1018 couldn't have drawn in a more eclectic crowd: pirates and wenches, angels, a caped crusader and other assorted fiends and art lovers.
Cannibal Flower's highlights were this uncredited (at least I couldn't find the credit after 3 drinks) larger than life painting of a very male demon imploring the viewer to partake of the forbidden fruit (I mean the apple).
Another favorite was Nathan Spoor's Ascension, a dramatic and ethereal piece with the demeanor of hope and immortality in a science fiction realm.
The work of Joshua Clay, the featured artist, portrayed scenes of betrayal, anguish and anger in an emotional way that cut straight into the viewer's own experiences with these themes. Desolation is pictured here.
Drown Your Sorrow by Alex Garcia is a cautionary visual aid mixing religious overtones with a graffiti inspired style.
