DOLLS TO THE WALLS
Opening Reception @ Project:Studio
Friday, April 21 2006 - Los Angeles

Walking into Project, my pupils were first sparked by this image, “Undo” from Alex Prager’s Amy Series.. a happy dollywood broad standing in a cul-de-sac dawning a 20’s umbrella and a goodwill dress and a mini Doberman frozen in mid-air to her side. Whoever said that the artscene in LA is dying, must be hiding from all these great shows that I’ve found lately. Different from the NY scene, LA is getting fresh and young again. at least this side of town is. at least this show was. The mood about the place was serene, vodka flowing like its free, Mrnumberwonderful pumping downtempo beats from beneath a white iron bunkbed made dj booth, artsy cats waltzing around with fur tails and seamed stockings.. any artist has had dreams of this setting.. a dimly-lit smoking patio with fabric walls glowing over blue hued lightbulbs kept noisy until well past midnite, i came home smelling like an art show, mixed with a little salsa from a 24 hour hollywood drivethru, speeding home to blog about it, more eager to view the flicks on my digi.. there’s my investigative report for ya face

other art that caught my eye:

Jeff Charbonneau
A dreamy image of a figure standing in a container yard

Jon Humphries
Timeless skateboarding classics

Mark Hunter / thecobrasnake.com– likes hot photo action and it shows thru his powerful work that I like to think of as Hollywood thru a local lens

Hal Bergman - such rich color in this photo of a man in a military helmet holding a green bong against a red wall

Also See: Queens of the Night going on at Bergamot station, Santa Monica.
