BREAK ON THE BREAK

Average White Band “Pick up the Pieces”
Atlantic Records 1975

This break out single quickly soared to the top of the charts
at #1 with the R&B and main steam crowd.
The song immediately jumps out at you with a killer groove
of fat horns, strong percussions and complemented by an
up tempo melodic beat.
Guaranteed to shake ass ! of any age. This timeless classic
turns out, to be a favorite song of several advertising
agencies, movie producers, and rap stars galore. You've
heard the song in scores of commercials. In fact, a Revlon
ad features a hip, overproduced "Pick Up the Pieces" remix.
This tune has been featured in dozens of films, including Swingers, Blue Streak, Private Parts,
and Superman II. Beyond that, the Average White Band happens to be the most sampled act in
all of music -- behind James Brown, that is. Bits and pieces of "Pick Up the Pieces," as well as
"Cut the Cake," "Schoolboy Crush," and several of the band's collat! eral masterpieces, have
been "borrowed" by the likes of P. Diddy, TLC, and Janet Jackson, to name just a few. It has
even became an pseudo theme song for “Argyle” an bi-weekly club that I do with the bums
that threw together this rag that you have in your pretty hands.

If you’re new to the scene, wet behind the ears, or just an old school veteran, defiantly take a
peep out on this funky little joint. Whether it’s on CD, 8-Track or you got a nifty 45 like me;
you will be listing to a hit that has spanned the globe the last 30 years. An oldie, but a goodie.
